Main responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Volunteer Engagement Officer, the volunteer will help support Crossroads International in the implementation of a public engagement strategy during volunteer mandates. The volunteer must:
- Support the Anglophone West African Volunteers Public Engagement Strategy by encouraging them to identify themselves as gender equality champions and participate in related public engagement activities during the mandate;
- Monitor and follow up on volunteer public engagement activities during the mandates;
- In collaboration with the volunteers:
- Plan and produce content (videos/photos/social media posts with the support of Crossroads International and partner organizations in Senegal;
- Plan interviews and stories in consultation with the Crossroads International team in Senegal, Carrefour’s communications manager in Canada and the volunteer editor;
- Provide content twice a week to the communications team, for use on various channels, including YouTube, the Crossroads International website, organic and paid social media, emails, display ads, training videos, etc.
Qualification criteria for selection include:
- Professional experience in communications, marketing, or related field
- Experience working with not-for-profit organizations
- Analytical and information-seeking skills, effective and proven writing skills
- Oral fact-finding, presentation, and communication skills
- Computer Skills: Microsoft applications and internet research
- Training experience
- Ability to design and develop communication strategies
- Knowledge of gender equality framework, an asset
- Ability and willingness to work in rural areas during field visits and willingness to work in a non-Canadian socio-cultural and professional settings.

Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Medical insurance and vaccinations
- Pre-assignment online training.
