Main Responsibilities
- Social media content creation
- Support, and promote organizational goals and message development,
- Create and disseminate public relations materials to increase visibility among stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with partners, investors and customer audiences that will help advance the mission
- Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them.
- Ensure digital marketing content aligns with Songtaba brand’s identity and message and assist with marketing campaigns as needed
- Work closely with leaders and executives to develop and strengthen employee engagement activities
- Create and implement a social media strategy based on competitive research, platform selection, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
- Create, edit, publish, and share daily content (original texts, infographics, images, or video) that fosters meaningful connections and encourages community members to act.
- Gather and analyze relevant social media data/metrics, insights, and best practices, or feedback etc
- Support communications related to SGBV prevention, gender equality and women’s empowerment, and other gender equality and visibility needs
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of working experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist.
- Bachelor or Advanced degree in communications, marketing, business, media, or public relations is required.
- Excellent consulting, writing, editing (infographics, photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
- Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
- Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
- Ability and willingness to work in rural areas during field visits and willingness to work in a non-Canadian socio-cultural and professional settings
- Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
Songtaba works to increase the educational status of the Northern Region as a whole by promoting the status and rights of women. One of the major goals is to educate and train women on hard skills that enable them to live independently and sustainably.
Description the volunteer mandate
Songtaba is looking for a volunteer with experience in social media and communications to help develop communication strategies that will advance the objectives of the organization. The volunteer will support and facilitate in relationship building with key stakeholders, engage the public on social traditional media, and promote the brand as the organization grows.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training.
