Main Responsibilities

  • Review SIHA’s project management tools (related to design, planning, and implementation) and collaborate with the programme team to improve, harmonize, and develop new tools as appropriate
  • Support the dissemination / adoption of the project management tools through regular training and hands-on support.
  • Facilitate training for programme staff on result-based management
  • Facilitate training for programme staff on project design/proposal writing
  • Support country teams in identifying project ideas aligned with SIHA’s overall strategies and developing concept notes.
  • Support the development and operationalization of SIHA’s new programmatic strategy, including the M&E Plan.
  • Review SIHA’s project M&E tools and collaborate with the programme team to improve, harmonize, and develop new tools as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/Masters University Degree (or equivalent ) in Project Management, International Development, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Public Administration etc
  • 3 – 7 years’ experience in a similar position working on similar programs, preferably in an NGO context or similar
  • Expertise in project management, the use of project management tools such as Trello, Asana, Smartsheet etc
  • Experience in leading proposal writing;
  • Expertise in monitoring and evaluation;
  • Experience in research, data collection and analysis;
  • Ability to facilitate capacity building activities
  • Strong interest in women’s rights issues;
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills / ability to work in a multicultural and mixed environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
  • Capacity to take initiatives and work autonomously

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

Borne of the social justice movement, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network is an indigenous African women’s rights network.

The SIHA network was created by women activists from Somaliland, Ethiopia, and Sudan in the mid-1990s. Today SIHA continues to work as an inclusive and diverse feminist women’s rights network that holds a unique position working as a regional civil society network in politically volatile contexts. SIHA works in a variety of cultural, political, and geographical environments in Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland, Sudan and South Sudan.

Description the volunteer mandate

SIHA has experienced a rapid growth in recent years, leading to an expansion of its workforce and the implementation of an increased number of projects. To ensure performance and outcomes, SIHA aims to strengthen its staff capacity to implement multi-partner/ multi-country projects and to streamline project management processes and tools. SIHA’s projects are implemented in complex, conflict and post-conflict environments requiring a high level of adaptability. SIHA currently carries out projects in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia/Somaliland, and Uganda. The Project Management Advisor will join the Programme Department and work in close collaboration with the Regional Projects Coordinator and Country Coordinators under the supervision of the Regional Programme Manager.

Eligibility criteria 

 Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  

Plane ticket and local transport 

Pre-assignment online training.
