\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u00c0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1950, avant la cr\u00e9ation de l’Agence canadienne de d\u00e9veloppement international (ACDI) et de la plupart des organismes nationaux de d\u00e9veloppement, un groupe enthousiaste se r\u00e9unissait dans un sous-sol pour discuter de d\u00e9veloppement international et r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 la suite des \u00e9v\u00e9nements. Inspir\u00e9 par un pr\u00e9dicateur noir am\u00e9ricain nomm\u00e9 James Robinson, le groupe allait fonder Carrefour International et permettre \u00e0 des milliers de Canadiens et de citoyens des pays en d\u00e9veloppement d’unir leurs forces pour un objectif commun : cr\u00e9er un monde plus juste et plus durable. Le Dr Robinson croyait que les gens sont fondamentalement plus semblables que diff\u00e9rents et imaginait un MONDE UNIQUE o\u00f9 pr\u00e9vaudraient la compr\u00e9hension mutuelle et le respect des diff\u00e9rences raciales et culturelles. Dans une Am\u00e9rique des ann\u00e9es 1950 divis\u00e9e par le racisme et la discrimination, sa vision \u00e9tait radicale et reste profond\u00e9ment pertinente aujourd’hui. En 1958, il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 Operation Carrefour Afrique, une organisation volontaire qui a r\u00e9uni des Am\u00e9ricains et des Canadiens noirs et blancs pour travailler aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des Africains dans des projets de d\u00e9veloppement.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Peter Paris fut le premier Carrefouriste canadien, voyageant avec le Dr Robinson au Nig\u00e9ria en 1958. De petits groupes de volontaires collect\u00e8rent des fonds et coordonn\u00e8rent des missions \u00e0 l’\u00e9tranger pour les Canadiens tout au long des ann\u00e9es 1960. Les Carrefouristes, comme on les appelait alors, construisirent des \u00e9coles et des centres communautaires, enseign\u00e8rent dans des r\u00e9gions d\u00e9pourvues d’enseignants et contribu\u00e8rent \u00e0 la construction d’infrastructures dans des communaut\u00e9s vuln\u00e9rables. En 1969, 257 Canadiens particip\u00e8rent \u00e0 des missions \u00e0 l’\u00e9tranger.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLa le\u00e7on que nous ont apprise les fondateurs de Carrefour est l'immense obligation de poursuivre ce travail, et non de le r\u00e9p\u00e9ter aveugl\u00e9ment. Ils n'ont pas r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9 aveugl\u00e9ment ce qui les avait pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9s. Ils ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 de nouvelles solutions aux d\u00e9fis auxquels ils \u00e9taient confront\u00e9s et ont pris des mesures audacieuses et innovantes.
