Main Responsibilities
- Development of advocacy materials (written, audio and visual).
- Targeted lobby and advocacy with key duty bearers.
- Capacity building of staff in children’s rights advocacy and programming
- Literature review and development of research proposals
- Data collection including short and long clips for social media and documentary production
- Data analysis and report writing including producing a documentary of findings
- Presentation of research findings and facilitating reflections on findings.
- Development of project concept to be shared with stakeholders
- Identification and dissemination to potential partners
Qualifications
- 2nd cycle university degree or equivalent in Data collection, research or similar fields
- Research. project proposal and reporting writing skills and experience
- Excellent research skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
Women for Change is a gender focused NGO that works to build capacities of rural communities especially women and girls to achieve sustainable development. The organisation is at the stage homes developing A5 year strategic plan to cover the period 2023 to 2027. Some of the issues that have been identified during the implementation of current projects need further research in order for the organisation to determine whether they are priority issues. Further, research data will also be used to build evidence that will be utilised for lobby and advocacy purposes and hence the need for a Data Research Advisor to support the organisation in this process.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 6 – 13 December 2023 for January 2024 departure dates
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training.
