Main Responsibilities
- Undertake a desk study on Eswatini’s climate vulnerabilities, impacts and energy crisis, including comparison with key countries in the region
- Conduct stakeholder consultations using methods such as problem tree, solutions tree and discuss the Theory of Change to come up with workable solutions for Eswatini to address climate and energy crisis
- Develop infographics, social media posts, newspaper articles, tweets and other ways to advocate for action on the climate and energy crisis
- Utilize existing platforms advocate for action on the climate and energy crisis and upload on CANGO website.
- Undertake a rapid climate finance mapping exercise to identify potential funders CANGO could apply for funding to.
- In collaboration with CANGO staff develop a list of project ideas at a writing workshop
- Prioritize five project ideas and develop them further to a stage of concept notes, which can be developed into full proposals to access climate finance.
- Develop a template for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) for climate projects
Qualifications
- 5years of experience working in the environmental field with knowledge on climate change issues
- University degree in the field of environment or any other field relevant to the position
- Excellent writing skills
- Multi-stakeholder engagement
- Workshop design and delivery
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science
- Ability to work with flexibility and be adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
The Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations, (CANGO) was established in 1983 primarily as a network for NGOs working in Primary Health Care in Swaziland. CANGOs overall mandate as an umbrella body is to ensure a well-functioning and coordinated civil society.
The Environment & Climate Advisor will help the sector develop a clear theory of change for this advocacy action that: (1) Has a clear, logical design that achieves its intended outcomes, (2) Ensure the sector ideates projects that focuses on the root cause of the problem and not on the symptoms, (3) articulate what needs to happen and put in place a monitoring system to ensure this is implemented and, (4) Make explicit assumptions about how results can be achieved from an established baseline and support the identification of potential risks and measures to reduce them.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 14 – 20 February 2024.
- Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training.
