Main Responsibilities

  • Support integration of climate change adaptation and mitigation as cross-cutting theme in development programs
  • Experience in management of environmental projects, natural resources management, agriculture, and adaptation to climate change
    • Skills in integration of climate change adaptation and mitigation as cross-cutting theme in development programs
    • Skills in approaches to integrate the environment and sustainable practices in economic empowerment
    • Experience in developing environmental policies for organizations

Qualification criteria for selection include:

  • A Degree in Development studies, Economics, Political Economy, Social Sciences, Gender and Women’s Rights, Communications, or any other related field. Masters in any of the mentioned field will be of added advantage.
  • Experience in working on gender, and women’s rights
  • Ability to produce timely, analytical, and concise reports
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender mainstreaming
  • Proven knowledge of Result Based program planning and management
  • Ability to promote and monitor inclusion of gender-specific objectives, indicators, targets and activities in ORG programs
  • Knowledge and experience of facilitation techniques and participatory approaches
  • Knowledge and experience of programs in advancing women’s equality and economic autonomy.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in international cooperation, preferably in a non-profit environmental at the local level is an asset.
  • Excellent ability to work autonomously and willingness to take initiative.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with a team, in person and from a distance.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to support volunteers, including mentorship and counselling.
  • Exceptional intercultural competencies and attitudes, including patience and respect for local expertise and work culture and intercultural communication.
  • Ability to cope with cultural isolation and a different standard of living.

Partner Description

TUSONGE Community Development Organization has been established since 2011 in the regions of Kilimanjaro and Arusha, Tanzania. TUSONGE envisions a society where people enjoy equal rights to sustainable livelihood, well-being, and play developmental roles as committed citizens.

TUSONGE’s mission is to enable marginalized women, men, youth, and children to create prosperity, health, freedom and contribute to vibrant care economies. Tusonge specializes in women economic empowerment, the inclusion of people living with disabilities, advocating for women in local leadership positions, sustainable and eco-friendly farming, through the Human Rights Based Approach.

Eligibility criteria 

*Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 

  • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
  • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
  • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
  • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
  • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Medical insurance and vaccinations 
  • Pre-assignment online training from 15 – 22 January 2025
