Main Responsibilities

    • Increase capacity of finance department in the development of tools that support sustainable management of organizational resources
    • Update NAFGEM financial policy and increase capacity of all staff on financial literacy and compliance 

Qualifications

    • Undergraduate university degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, financial management 
    • Master’s University Degree (or equivalent) Preferred but not required 
    • Experience with quick books, financial auditing 
    • Experience in facilitating training 
    • Experience budget creation 
    • Experience in development of financial strategies and policies 

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

The Network Against Female Genital Mutilation (NAFGEM) is an association of individuals, groups, institutions and other NGOs, dedicated to ending female genital mutilation and other harmful traditional practices towards women in Tanzania. NAFEGEM’s main focus is to raise awareness among grass-root communities where these customs are still being practiced through educational seminars, training workshops and awareness campaigns at various community events. 

NAFGEM is looking to strengthen the capacity of current finance department to properly manage funds, utilizing accounting packages and supporting in project development and budgeting for future projects. 

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
