Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct organizational assessment and determine how current accounting system can be used effectively and mentor staff on financial literacy, financial practices and procedures.
  • Conduct training with KI staff to strengthen practices and procedures.
  • Conduct an internal audit with the aim of strengthening KI systems and help recommend how KI can conduct internal audits.
  • Knowledge sharing and capacity building on accounting systems
  • Assist in identifying and filling policy gaps in accordance with best practice.
  • Build capacities to implement more inclusive and innovative initiatives on developing financial strategies, policies and procedures and financial controls.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 8 years experience
  • Chartered Accountant background with experience in accounting and financial systems
  • Advanced knowledge/training on an accounting software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis, models and forecasts
  • Analytical and Strategic thinking skills

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

Kwakha Indvodza (“Building a Man”) is Eswatini’s first male mentoring organization. KI specializes in community-led health and behavior change interventions with men and boys. Since 2012, their activities have been focused on KI’s 3 Pillars, namely: Male Health, Financial Independence and Social Responsibility.

Description the volunteer mandate

KI has identified a need in capacity building for the Finance team in advancing use of software and strengthening of best practice procedure. As a growing department within the organization, the team needs more oversight from someone with a strong finance background to provide capacity building on integrating excel based accounting templates with pastel or other accounting software

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 16 – 25 August 2023

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
