Project description and context:
Crossroads International’s 2020-2027 Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) entitled Championing Gender Equality Together, funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), will engage Canadian women and men, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions. Collectively these Gender Equality Champions constitute a global community of strong change agents and advocates for the advancement of gender equality both in Canada and overseas.
The Project aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence, which are the culmination of unequal and discriminatory power relations entrenched in society. Crossroads will address the root causes of gender-based inequalities and discrimination through a multidimensional holistic approach in the VCP that will, 1) promote women’s rights; 2) advance access to justice and the reduction of gender-based violence (GBV), 3) promote equal representation of women and men, and 4) target inequalities that limit women’s ability to participate in and benefit from economic activities. Crossroads applies a rights-based approach to programming, which extends to promoting, protecting, and defending women’s rights, including strengthening the capacity of women’s rights organizations to participate in and influence policy formulation and hold accountable those who have a duty to act.
Description of the partner
Crossroads collaborates with WiLDAF Ghana which is part of a Pan Africa Women’s Rights network called Women in Law and Development in Africa, whose mission is to use the law as a tool for development to ensure that women’s rights are respected, promoted and protected by way of promoting and reinforcing strategies that link law and development in order to increase women’s participation and influence at the local, national and international levels. WiLDAF is operational in several African countries including Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This volunteer mandate is needed because the volunteer will assist in the coordination of all communication activities and strategies of WiLDAF Ghana to ensure that the impact and scope of our work are captured to first keep our network members, partners and donors informed, as well as preserving institutional memory.
Description the volunteer mandate
The volunteer we are looking for should participate Immediate Superior: WiLDAF Ghana’s Finance and Administration Manager
Responsibilities and Accountabilities: (40% of total time allocated: 28.7 % time on FSTP, 12% on No-FSTP)
The Finance Officer will be responsible for the overall financial management of the project and thus the FSTP sub-granting scheme. He will provide strategic and technical advice; participate in joint reviews and mid-term/final evaluations; and she will do a quality check of quarterly and annual reports (28.7% no-FSTP). She will ultimately be responsible for financial management and oversight of FSTP, e.g., review and approve budgets and payments, monitor budget vs. actuals (12% FSTP).
Main responsibilities
- Ensure the operation of an efficient and effective financial system for WiLDAF Ghana’s component of the ENOUGH! Project
- Ensure that all financial transactions, payments, and disbursements of funds of the WiLDAF Ghana’s component of the ENOUGH! Project are recorded and documented.
- To Provide Grant Management and Reporting tasks to support WiLDAF Ghana’s FSTP component of the project
- Ensure the execution other WiLDAF Ghana related financial functions as may be delegated to him/her by the WiLDAF Ghana Finance and Administration Manager Activities
- Record all payments and receipts of WiLDAF Ghana’s component of the ENOUGH! Project.
- Undertake all banking transactions relating to WiLDAF Ghana’s component of the ENOUGH! Project.
- Prepares periodic financial statements of WiLDAF Ghana’s component of the ENOUGH! Project.
- Prepares all vouchers for payments for payments in the organization.
- Provide timely reports on grants and track expenditure of the organization.
- Ensure that all financial accounts are up to date.
- Compile and coordinate periodic budgets for ENOUGH! and other projects
Qualification criteria for selection include:
- Degree in Business Administration (Accounting option) or equivalent, or.
- CIMA qualification a plus
- At least three (5) years post qualification experience in a Project finance Management position.
- Computer literacy, ability to use spreadsheets and accounting software such as QuickBooks.

- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure trainings: May 25th to June 1st.
