Main Responsibilities

  • Providing professional, technical and advisory services to the staff, the program and to promote women empowerment, gender equality and youth inclusion.
  • Lead the design, training and implementation of interventions to ensure active participation of women and youth in all Programme activities.
  • Ensuring measurement, recording and interpretation of specific gender and youth indicators.
  • Serve as the lead adviser in identifying, developing and implementing gender and youth mainstreaming and empowerment in all program activities in coordination with technical team members.
  • Leading the design and implementation of the assessments and studies that aim to identify the contextual and socio – cultural aspects influencing gender equality and youth inclusion in project activities.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate University degree (or equivalent) in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social work, Development and\or Program Management.
  • A minimum of 3 (three) years professional experience in the field of development, focusing on gender programming relating to gender equality and women’s rights projects.
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders and partners related to gender equality and women’s empowerment, including governments and civil society organizations.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating progress of gender centred projects.
  • Previous experience in Africa with demonstrated understanding of country context and culture is considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/skills and/or experience with the Result Based Management approach.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of programs in advancing women’s equality and economic autonomy.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in international cooperation, preferably in a non-profit environmental at the local level is an asset.
  • Excellent ability to work autonomously and willingness to take initiative.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with a team, in person and from a distance.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to support volunteers, including mentorship and counselling.
  • Exceptional intercultural competencies and attitudes, including patience and respect for local expertise and work culture and intercultural communication.
  • Ability to cope with cultural isolation and a different standard of living.

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.

Solidaridad is an international civil society organization with over 50 years of experience in developing solutions to make communities more resilient — from our early roots supporting repressed communities in Latin America to our current work fostering more sustainable supply chains. We currently work in over 40 countries, on five continents, through eight independently supervised regional offices.

Description the volunteer mandate

The mandate of the volunteer is to provide professional, technical, and advisory services to staff and to promote our women empowerment, gender equality and youth inclusion programmes at the Zambia country office.

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 6 – 13 December 2023 for January 2024 departure dates. 

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
