Main responsibilities

  • Fundraising and Business Development strategies to develop gender transformative Programmes that effectively engage women, youth, and marginalized groups across all Progammes.
  • Work with resource development officers on prospect research, event support, database management, and stakeholder communications.
  • Support the public engagement officers in social media communications, website updates, and communications content.
  • Oversees gender related fundraising opportunities Determines funding needs by meeting with  Programme managers
  • Create informative and interesting press releases, press kits, newsletters, and related marketing materials
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build brand awareness
  • Prepare detailed social media activity interventions.
  • Plan and manage the design and content of all gender and youth related marketing materials.
  • Create communication and marketing strategies for all gender and youth activities, programme launches, events etc

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university degree (or equivalent), 2nd cycle university degree (or equivalent) in Business Development, NGO management, Communications  or any relevant social science
  • Specialized vocational training
  • Proposal and report writing skills, social media innovations
  • Culturally sensitive and able to interact with high level executives
  • Fundraising And Communication skills
  • Videography, news creation, graphic designing, training content design and social media skills
  • Gender and youth knowledge

Project description and context

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

 

Description of the partner

Solidaridad is an international civil society organization with over 50 years of experience in developing solutions to make communities more resilient — from our early roots supporting repressed communities in Latin America to our current work fostering more sustainable supply chains. Solidaridad currently works in over 40 countries, on five continents, through eight independently supervised regional offices. The mandate of the volunteer is to provide professional, technical and advisory services to staff and to the program to promote women empowerment, gender equality and youth inclusion in all Programmes in the Zambia country office.

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure trainings from 6 – 13 December 2023 for January 2024 departure dates

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Medical insurance and vaccinations 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
