Main Responsibilities

  1. Conduct Capacity Assessment – Engage Consortia on planned capacity building, Communication with directors on planned training  and solicit commitment
  2. Staff and board training
  3. Conduct policy and advocacy training – Identify and document policy making processes in Eswatini
  4. Develop and adopt framework to guide directors in advocacy work – Creation of an advocacy training module
  5. Facilitate strategic planning
  6. Develop a succession planning framework to guide NGOs
  7. Oversee adoption of framework and dissemination

Qualifications 

  • A Degree in Development studies, Economics, Politics, Social Sciences, Project Management, International Relations, Public Policy, Gender and Women’s Rights, Human Resources or any other related field. Masters in any of the mentioned field will be of added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in international cooperation, preferably in a non-profit environmental at the local level is an asset.
  • Experience in developing various organizational policies for NGO’s
  • Leadership Capacity building experience
  • Experience in corporate governance
  • Excellent ability to work autonomously and willingness to take initiative.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with a team, in person and from a distance.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to support volunteers, including mentorship and counselling.
  • Exceptional intercultural competencies and attitudes, including patience and respect for local expertise and work culture and intercultural communication.
  • Ability to cope with cultural isolation and a different standard of living.

Project description and context

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

CANGO is an umbrella body formalized in 1987 and has 70 active members.  Its structure includes the Annual General Meeting which is the highest policy making body responsible for  electing board members, approving annual reports, change constitution, appoint auditors.  Then the Board which consist of 11 members, 9 elected and two appointed based on their expertise.  The Board has an oversight function including setting strategic plan, approving policies,  reviewing financial and programmatic reports to mention a few.  Then there is a Secretariat which has Executive Director, Coordination and advocacy Unit, Finance and Administration and Grants management.  CANGO mandate includes: Coordination, Capacity Building, Advocacy and Grants Management.

Eligibility criteria 

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
  • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
  • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
  • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
  • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
  • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from14 – 20 February 2024.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Medical insurance and vaccinations 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
