Main Responsibilities
Enhanced Automation
- Assess current systems (e.g., Water) and identify additional automation opportunities.
- Develop and support the implementation of advanced automation tools and processes.
- Train staff on using new automation systems
Advanced Data Management
- Evaluate current data management practices and systems.
- Develop and support the implementation of advanced data integration and management solutions.
- Establish data governance protocols and train staff
Capacity Building
- Conduct training sessions on advanced IT systems and tools.
- Develop user manuals and training materials.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for staff.
Qualifications
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT systems development and implementation.
- Proven track record of automating processes and data management.
- Experience in training staff and ensuring system adoption.
- Strong ability to design and implement IT solutions.
- Genuine interest in the mission of ACTS and a commitment to supporting last-mile communities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner & Description the volunteer mandate
Africa Community Technical Service (ACTS) is dedicated to improving the lives of last-mile communities through access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. ACTS seeks to further advance its IT capabilities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting. The goal is to automate more processes, integrate additional IT solutions, and build staff capacity to use these advanced tools effectively. This mandate aims to bring in an IT Specialist to develop and implement advanced automation and data management systems.
Specific Needs
- Enhanced Automation. Build on existing systems to automate additional processes, reducing manual effort and errors.
- Advanced Data Management. Improve data integration, analysis, and reporting capabilities.
- Capacity Building. Train staff to use advanced IT tools and systems, ensuring sustainability and continuous improvement.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training
