Project description and context:

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.

Description of the partner

Eshet Children and Youth Development Organization (ECYDO) and Progynist Ethiopia. These organizations are pivotal in advancing gender equality, child protection, and youth empowerment, but face significant barriers in establishing robust MEAL systems to improve program quality, measure outcomes, and ensure accountability to stakeholders.

Description the volunteer mandate

Currently, ECYDO and Progynist Ethiopia struggle with inconsistent monitoring and evaluation practices, making it difficult to collect, analyze, and report reliable data. Without standardized tools and frameworks, their ability to assess program impact is limited, creating challenges in demonstrating progress to donors and communities. Additionally, staff have limited expertise in data management, impact measurement, and results-based reporting, further hampering their capacity to effectively evaluate and communicate program successes. Knowledge management gaps compound these issues, as lessons learned are not systematically documented, which restricts institutional learning and the ability to scale effective interventions.

Donors increasingly prioritize organizations that can demonstrate measurable, evidence-based results and accountability. Without addressing gaps in MEAL systems, ECYDO and Progynist Ethiopia risk losing critical funding opportunities and their capacity to meet the growing needs of vulnerable groups, including women, girls, and youth.

This mandate is critical to building the MEAL capacity of ECYDO and Progynist Ethiopia to strengthen their program effectiveness and sustainability. The volunteer will design and implement standardized MEAL tools and frameworks to ensure consistent data collection, analysis, and reporting processes. Through targeted training and capacity-building workshops, staff will gain the knowledge and skills required to manage data effectively, measure program outcomes, and report results that meet donor standards.
