Main responsibilities

TUSONGE is a learning organization. The growth of her programs and coverage calls for enhancement of the monitoring and evaluation skills as to ensure changes which are contributed by the interventions from TUSONGE are clear and well documented.

TUSONGE was conceived 2011 with only one project in Majengo ward which was focusing on economic empowerment to women and girls as well as PWDs. A total number of only 150 people were reached. To date 2022 TUSONGE have grown to level of running 4 project in 6 communities of Kilimanjaro and Arusha region. This growth calls for more attention on how the changes are tracked, which tools are we using as to ensure we leave no evidence behind to own the contribution made by TUSONGE.

With this perspective TUSONGE will need to have a volunteer mandate with skills which will contribute in :

  1. Developing and improving TUSONGE Result management plan,
  2. Support in developing simplified tools to promote easy collection of the data from the beneficiaries.
  3. Support to capture the qualitative information and changes which will affirm the contributions made by TUSONGE in each project.
  4. Review TUSONGE existing tools for M&E and identify existing gaps
  5. Capacity development for TUSONGE M&E team on how to design effective tools for data collection
  6. Increase capacity (Skills and Knowledge) for the monitoring and evaluation unit on how to track the project changes
  7. Develop TUSONGE Result based management plan and improved skills of M&E unit acquire to implement
  8. Improved database system to store data for all projects

Qualification criteria for selection:

  • Undergraduate University Degree (or equivalent) in Data management, Research and statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Planning and Management
  • Skills in monitoring and evaluation, reporting results, documentation, design tools on tracking changes, skills for analysis and interpretation of data to bring out the impression on the ground.
  • Ability to produce timely, analytical, and concise reports
  • Proven knowledge of Result Based program planning and management
  • Ability to promote and monitor inclusion of gender-specific objectives, indicators, targets, and activities.
  • Knowledge and experience of facilitation techniques and participatory approaches
  • Knowledge and experience of programs in advancing women’s equality and economic autonomy.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in international cooperation, preferably in a non-profit environmental at the local level is an asset.
  • Excellent ability to work autonomously and willingness to take initiative.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with a team, in person and from a distance.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to support volunteers, including mentorship and counselling.
  • Exceptional intercultural competencies and attitudes, including patience and respect for local expertise and work culture and intercultural communication.
  • Ability to cope with cultural isolation and a different standard of living.

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.

TUSONGE Community Development Organization has been established since 2011 in the regions of Kilimanjaro and Arusha, Tanzania. TUSONGE envisions a society where people enjoy equal rights to sustainable livelihood, well-being, and play developmental roles as committed citizens.

Our mission is to enable marginalized women, men, youth and children to create prosperity, health, freedom and contribute to vibrant care economies. We are specialized in women economic empowerment, the inclusion of people living with disabilities, advocating for women in local leadership positions, sustainable and eco-friendly farming, and we utilize the Human Rights Based Approach.

The skills and knowledge contribute towards achieving our strategic components for a five-year period:

  3. Institutional development

Eligibility criteria:

  • ***IMPORTANT: 
    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
  • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
  • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer
  • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:

  • Pre-assignment online training.
