Main Responsibilities

Develop and manage EASSI’s strategic partnerships in the EAC and Horn of Africa region:

  • Manage and coordinate the relationships with key partners and ensure the proactive coordination, monitoring and facilitation of EASSI’s timely response;
  • Provide technical support to senior management and the Board of Directors’ efforts to develop new and innovative partnerships;
  • Help the organisation set and monitor annual priorities, goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for regional partnerships, in line with the regional and national partnerships and resource mobilization strategies;
  • Coordinate develop and plan of the partnership building work at the regional level;
  • Provide strategic advice to the staff and Board on building and maintaining partnerships, including the AU, EAC, IGAD, regional women’s organizations and institutions.

Build trust and maintain effective corporate relationships with Donors:

  • Provide technical support to the Management and Board in the preparation of strategic meetings and other consultations with donors, including the preparation of notes, briefs and other materials;
  • Support the building of a single and direct entry point for donors, building institutional relationships;
  • Support the building of a mechanism for regular updates on donor profiles, databases (e.g. contacts management) and donor intelligence;
  • Identify opportunities to secure additional non-core resources and, where appropriate, liaises with relevant stakeholders (sister organisations) for action, including recommendation on positioning with potential donors; timely follow-up and support;
  • In liaison with the EASSI programmes division, support the preparation of brief funding proposals and concept notes.

Facilitate and monitor the submission of high quality and timely reports to Donors:

    • Support EASSI to build systems to promote compliance with the terms of grants and agreements, across the region;
    • Provide support to programme managers for the preparation of high quality and timely donor reports, including the monitoring, consolidation, editing and revision of all required reports on contributions to ensure the quality and relevance of all products aimed for external audiences; access sources of funding. The organisation desires to have a Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Officer, who will have the following responsibilities:

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate University Degree (or equivalent) ,- A Degree in Development studies, Economics, Political Economy, Social Sciences, Gender and Women’s Rights, Communications, Social Marketing etc. Masters in any of the mentioned field will be of added advantage.
  • Experience in working on gender, women’s rights and regional governance
  • 3-5 years past experience in a resource mobilization/marketing role
  • Experience in writing material for partnerships/resource mobilization, including policies, project proposals and promotional material
  • Strong knowledge of gender equality and women’s rights issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with government representatives and donors;
  • Proven networking skills, and ability to mobilize support on behalf of EASSI;
  • Excellent negotiating skills;
  • Excellent IT skills, including databases, extranet and office software packages;
  • Strong risk management skills;
  • Very effective at multi-tasking;
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Focuses on impact and results for EASSI beneficiaries;
  • Ability to identify opportunities and builds strong relationships with beneficiaries and external actors;
  • Willing to work with minimum supervision, reliable and punctual
  • Comprehensive understanding of the social, economic, political and geographical structures of the Greater Horn and Eastern Africa (an asset)

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

The Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI) is a sub-regional civil society organisation made up of committed individuals, NGOs, coalitions and networks driven to transform gender relations globally and especially in the Eastern Africa sub-region. The organisation works in nine countries namely Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.

EASSI was established in 1996 after the Beijing Conference with a mandate to monitor implementation of the African and Beijing Platforms for Action in Eastern Africa and the Beijing and African Platforms for Action are the main international agreements that frame EASSI’s programmes. Over the years, EASSI has taken on other regional and international instruments such as the Maputo Protocol, the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among others.

Description the volunteer mandate

In order to help sustain EASSI’s strong programming work and identify new innovative projects and given the global changes in the donor funding environment, EASSI is working towards developing improved strategies to mobilize resources, build networks and access sources of funding. The organisation desires to have a Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Officer, who will have the following responsibilities.

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
