Crossroads International is a leading Canadian international cooperation organization, advancing equality for women and girls and eradicating poverty in some of the world’s poorest countries in Africa where women and girls face great adversity: unequal access to resources and economic opportunities, gender-based violence and limited participation in political and public life. Project description and context:
Crossroads International’s 2020-2027 Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), titled Championing Gender Equality Together, wants to mobilize volunteers that will become champions of gender equality, to build a global community of agents of change for the advancement of gender equality in Canada and sub-Saharan Africa. Through this program, Crossroads will tackle, through volunteer support, the root causes of inequalities and gender-based discrimination through a multidimensional holistic approach that will aim to: promote the rights of women; promote access to justice and the reduction of gender-based violence (GBV); promote equal representation of women and men; and target the inequalities that limit the ability of women to participate in and benefit from economic activities. Working together to improve the economic and social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, in 11 Sub-Saharan African countries.
Description of the partner
Crossroads collaborates with DUNK, whose mission is to nurture vulnerable groups through sports to become the voice of change in their communities as well as through action-led initiatives. As a youth-led community-based organization, over the past 11 years, DUNK has created safe community spaces, continues to promote gender equality as well as youth empowerment avenues through sports to advocate for children’s rights to play and leisure, especially for girls, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – Article 31.
Description of the volunteer mandate
The volunteer we are seeking should assist in the development of projects and programs based on previous and current projects at DUNK, to enable the organization to strategically position itself to expand as the institutional capacity of DUNK grows by:
- Reviewing current organizational structure and providing advice on possible areas of portfolio diversification in light of the organization’s strategic goals
- Identifying programming ideas and areas of technical excellence to enhance the current program and project portfolio
- Liaising with program team leads to undertake fact-finding research to develop context analysis in relation to new program and project development opportunities
- Delivering training and support staff with project cycle management according to capacity-building needs
- Providing leadership and conducting a quality check on all proposals, reports and concept notes
- Assisting staff with the timely completion and submission of project reports
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or graduated from project management, finance, business administration, public administration or related field
- Experience with project cycle management (planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, evaluation and learning)
- Minimum of three years (3) experience of working in a local or international NGO/CSO setting
- Significant capacity building and training experience are an asset
- Good communication and training facilitation skills
- Self-motivated, target-driven and an entrepreneurial approach to work
- Proficiency in standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Eligibility criteria:
- ***IMPORTANT : Be living currently in Ghana and meet one of the following criteria:
- a) Be a citizen of an African country other than the country where volunteer mandate will take place (for example a Kenyan living in Ghana could apply for a volunteer mandate in Ghana) OR:
- b) Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Monthly living living allowance of approximately 2100 $CAD
- Medical insurance and vaccinations
- Pre-assignment online training.
