Main Responsibilities
- Research & analysis for a project or a program development on the rights of women, children and youths in marginalized communities
- Target good practices and lessons learned about research development, implementation and analysis
- Organize staff and volunteers training workshops
- Collaborate with staff to establish and maintain a comprehensive source of data on FGM, child marriage, and various forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
- Contribute to enhancing the sharing of scientific data aligned with NAFGEM’s vision and mission
- Participate in the conceptualization and design of innovative projects regarding FGM, child marriage and other types of GBV
- Contribute to the documentation and diffusion of learning, innovations and best practices in prevention and responses to FGM, child marriage and other types of GBV in Tanzania
- Contribute to all advocacy initiative regarding w omen, children and youths protection
Qualifications
- Undergraduate university degree (or equivalent) in relevant field
- Minimum 1 year working for CSO focusing on human rights and gender equality
- Knowledge and skills in designing and implement low cost researches in remote areas
- Experience in using social research analysis packages
- Experience in facilitating training and sharing knowledge
- Knowledge of Ki-Swahili is an asset.
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
The Network Against Female Genital Mutilation (NAFGEM) is an association of individuals, groups, institutions and other NGOs, dedicated to ending female genital mutilation and other harmful traditional practices towards women in Tanzania. NAFEGEM’s main focus is to raise awareness among grass-root communities where these customs are still being practiced through educational seminars, training workshops and awareness campaigns at various community events.
Description the volunteer mandate
NAFGEM is ambitious to improve its research and data collection knowledge and skills to ensure results from the interventions are well realized. With the research, NAFGEM will be able to identify and address priority needs in the community.
Eligibility criteria
*Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training from 14 – 20 February 2024
Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Medical insurance and vaccinations
- Pre-assignment online training.
