BACKGROUND
Crossroads International is an international development organization that is working towards reducing poverty and increasing women’s rights around the world. Working with local partners in 28 projects, in eight countries and supported by hundreds of volunteers each year, Crossroads leverages expertise and resources, North and South, required to help people overcome poverty and assert their human rights.
Tanzania Media Women’s Association is a media organization working in Tanzania to advocate for the rights of women and children; with media as a vehicle. The organization’s vision is one of a peaceful Tanzanian Society where human rights are upheld; especially the rights of girls and women. The organization advocates for women and children’s rights by conducting awareness raising activities for cultural, policy and legal transformations in the society through the use of media. Currently the organization is directly engaged in 10 districts including Ilala, Kinondoni, Kisarawe, Mvomero, Ruangwa, Rural Lindi, Newala, Urban West, South Unguja and Wete in Pemba.
Project description :
Tanzania Media Women’s Association was started by 12 women media practitioners in 1987 to promote women and girls’ issues. The membership has grown to more than 100 women journalists all with a minimum qualification of a Diploma in Journalism. Members reside in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar and majority of them work with various electronic and print media. In 2019 TAMWA and Crossroads International formed a partnership to further advance the rights of girls and women in Tanzania by supporting capacity building at the institutional level.
Based in Dar es Salaam, the volunteer will work alongside TAMWA’s strategic team on identifying opportunities and developing strategies for resource development. The volunteer will work with the team and equipping them on how to identify viable granting partners, produce high quality and successful proposals and engaging diverse stakeholders for resource mobilization to ensure gender equality and reduced gender-based violence across Tanzania.
POSITION DETAILS
- Conducting organizational SWOT analysis and other related analyses around resource development
- Work with TAMWA team to develop funder/donor database, identify and nurture potential funders
- Training TAMWA team on how to write proposals for resource mobilization
- Develop tools to track upcoming calls for proposals, application status and manage reporting deadlines
- Train staff on the developed tool to track upcoming proposals, application status and managing reporting deadline
Qualification criteria for selection include:
- Minimum of three years in resource mobilization, systems development and training
- Previous experience working internationally is an asset
- Experience identifying and building partnerships beyond resource development
- Knowledge and experience working in gender equality, especially on the reduction of gender-based violence

Other skill set/knowledge:
- Passion for gender equity
- Adaptability and flexibility, including ability to work with diverse cultures
- Oral fact finding, facilitation and communication
- Understanding of media landscapes
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
Language : English
Eligibility criteria:
- Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- Must be 19 years and older
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement

- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer
- The volunteer must be available to attend the following predeparture training : July 30-August 1st 2019
