Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
The Resource Mobilization Advisor mandate supports four key partner organizations in Ethiopia: NEWA, ECYDO, ACSO, and Progynist Ethiopia. These organizations are pivotal in advancing gender equality, environmental sustainability, and community development. However, they face significant barriers in securing long-term financial sustainability. Key challenges include limited expertise in resource mobilization, grant writing, donor engagement, and the absence of innovative fundraising mechanisms, particularly in digital fundraising. These gaps constrain their ability to sustain current programs and scale impactful initiatives effectively.
Description the volunteer mandate
The Ethiopian socio-economic context exacerbates these challenges. Organizations working in this region face increasing demands for resources while competing for limited funding opportunities. Donors are prioritizing organizations with comprehensive resource mobilization strategies, innovative approaches, and demonstrable accountability. Without addressing these gaps, the partner organizations risk losing critical funding, diminishing their capacity to meet growing community needs and donor expectations.
This mandate is essential to bridging these gaps by equipping partner organizations with tailored resource mobilization frameworks. These frameworks will include strategic fundraising plans, diversified donor engagement strategies, and capacity-building measures to ensure effective implementation. The volunteer will also develop innovative digital fundraising tools to support partner organizations in reaching a broader donor base and aligning with global trends.
Additionally, the Resource Mobilization Advisor will focus on strengthening internal capacities through training sessions and workshops. These will cover grant writing, donor relationship management, and digital fundraising techniques. The goal is to empower staff to confidently implement and sustain resource mobilization strategies over the long term. By embedding these practices within organizational operations, the partners will be better positioned to achieve financial sustainability and expand their impact.
Collaboration will be a cornerstone of this mandate. The volunteer will engage with program managers, finance teams, and leadership across the four organizations to align resource mobilization efforts with institutional goals. This multi-stakeholder approach ensures that strategies are practical, context-specific, and widely supported within each organization, increasing the likelihood of their success.
The ultimate goal of this mandate is to enhance the financial resilience of NEWA, ECYDO, ACSO, and Progynist Ethiopia, enabling them to continue driving meaningful social change in Ethiopia. By equipping these organizations with the tools, strategies, and knowledge to secure diverse funding sources, this mandate will contribute significantly to the broader goals of the Volunteer Cooperation Program.
This work is critical not only for sustaining current initiatives but also for enabling these organizations to meet future challenges, align with donor expectations, and achieve long-term transformative impact for their communities.
