Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
The Zanzibar Fighting Against Youth Challenges Organization (ZAFAYCO) acknowledges the pressing need to address the multifaceted challenges encountered by adolescents and youth, including young women and girls, in accessing comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education, information, and services. Despite sustained efforts, pervasive societal and cultural norms continue to stigmatize SRHR discussions, translating them as taboo and hindering progress.
Having actively pursued SRHR initiatives for over seven years, with a focus on intersectional youth issues, including those affecting young women, ZAFAYCO recognizes persistent obstacles that impede effective resolution of these challenges. Therefore, through the engagement of a dedicated volunteer, the organization aims to strengthen its capacity and impact by:
- Crafting a standardized SRHR training manual to ensure consistency and efficacy in educational sessions across diverse groups and communities.
- Establishing an SRHR framework to provide guidance for initiatives and interventions in the field, ensuring alignment with best practices and local needs.
- Generating digital SRHR content to disseminate accurate and engaging information and resources to a broader audience, leveraging digital platforms for outreach.
- Designing targeted SRHR campaigns tailored to resonate with specific audiences, catalyzing positive behavioral shifts and fostering supportive environments for SRHR.
- Engaging communities on SRHR through dialogue, dispelling misconceptions, and promoting acceptance and utilization of SRHR services.
- Advocating for SRHR rights to effect systemic change and advance SRHR rights advocacy at both local and national levels.
- Monitoring and adapting to shifts in the SRHR landscape, enabling proactive planning and responsive action to emerging issues and trends.
