Inspiring testimonials from participants in the Champs École Paysans Productrices (CEP) project
In December 2024, the first training session for Champ École des Producteurs Genre facilitators was held in Mbowène Souléye, in the commune of Passy (Djonssong), in the Fatick region of Senegal. This landmark event featured inspiring testimonials from women who have benefited from the Champs École Paysans Producteurs project. These stories highlight the positive impact this initiative has had on their lives and communities.
Stories of Change
Participant testimonials reveal stories of personal and community change. Seynabou Diouf from the Village of Lerane shares: “This project set up by Carrefour International enabled 99 women working on one hectare of land to have a fence, basins and watering hoses to facilitate access to water. All the perimeters have been fenced off. Previously, the women had to collect water directly from the well, a task that was very arduous for them, but thanks to the lances installed by the project, this responsibility has become less of a burden for them. They are very happy with the support provided by the project so far, and look forward to further skills development.”
Empowerment
The CEP project also plays a crucial role in empowering women. Tening Barro, another participant from Bambougar Village, commented: “This year, we’ve increased the area under cultivation because market gardening is becoming increasingly attractive in the village, because of the income it generates.
Perimeter security
The project’s impact is not limited to individuals, but extends to the protection of fields or perimeters. Mariama Diallo Keur Aliou DIOP told us that for a long time, animals used to enter the fields to eat the crops, which discouraged the women. But the CEP project has provided a great deal of support in repairing the fencing, with satisfactory results.
The testimonies gathered during this first training session for Champ École des Producteurs-trices Genre facilitators in Mbowène Souléye illustrate the importance and impact of this project. By strengthening women’s skills and empowering them, Carrefour is contributing to the positive transformation of rural communities in the Fatick region.
We would like to thank all the participants for their commitment and determination. Together, we’re building a more sustainable and equitable future.
