Main Responsibilities

  • Support in the implementation of WOUGNET’s current Resource Mobilisation Strategy
  • Identify and support the development of income diversification plans such as partnering with the private sector and other relevant areas.
  • Support funding proposal writing processes that include writing project proposals, budget proposals, workplans and coordination with the monitoring and evaluation department and program managers.
  • Support identification and mobilization of financial and non-financial resources from private sectors entities, individuals, and corporate agencies.
  • Co-develop tools and materials based on needs identified by the volunteer, and train managers and staff in resource mobilization, proposal writing and other fundraising practices.
  • Take lead in identifying funding opportunities, listing them, and sharing the information with supervisor and staff.
  • Co-develop campaign plans to improve the organization’s fundraising objectives.
  • Analyze the results of fundraising campaigns and provide reports to management.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and events to promote the organization and raise funds.
  • Coordinate processing of agreements in connection with funding opportunities and ensure effective and timely follow-up in terms of submission of reports to the donors and grant renewal proposals.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate University Degree (or equivalent) in Business development, Marketing,  economics, social sciences, Business Administration etc
  • Proven track of securing funding from various sources such grants, donations and investment
  • Experience with proposal writing grants and applications
  • Strong understanding of fundraising trends
  • Experience in Managing relations
  • Proven experience developing budgets and proposals, working with teams across different cultures and time zones.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with an excellent ability to conduct face-to-face meetings or Skype calls and present to large or small audiences.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, interpersonal skills and ability to handle complex and difficult situations 
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships
  •  Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Project description and context: 

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas. 

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence. 

Description of the partner

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a legally registered non-governmental organisation initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organizations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively.  Since inception, WOUGNETs operations and programs have been supported by fundraising efforts done by staff through writing proposals and submitting to various donors. However, the resources received have been small and at times not enough to support  a specialised staff  to support fund raising efforts.

Eligibility criteria 

    •  Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada. 
    • Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement 
    • Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct 
    • In good physical and mental health (medical examination required) 
    • The volunteer needs to bring their own computer. 
    • The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.

Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following: 

  • Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)  
  • Plane ticket and local transport 
  • Pre-assignment online training.
