Main Responsibilities
- Review existing social media strategy (or create one)
- Compile engaging content
- Co-creation of best practice guidebook
- Training of staff on social media management, content creation and framing
- Establishing relationships in social media and other media/professional groups to discuss women’s advancement in the region; build momentum for EASSI staff to continue these conversations
- Co-Creation of a new website for EASSI Micro Finance Institution to be linked to EASSI website
- Co-author, provide feedback and work with the team to build capacity for EASSI to develop materials such as newsletters, impact stories, and promotional materials
- Train staff on Canva and other communications/design tools
Qualifications
- Qualification in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations etc
- Three years experience in a Marketing & Communications related role
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with social media marketing platforms.
Experience with content management systems (CMS).
Other Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with public relations.
- Experience with brand management.
- Experience with marketing analytics.
- Experience with video editing and production.
- Experience with photography.
Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
The Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI) is a sub-regional civil society organisation made up of committed individuals, NGOs, coalitions and networks driven to transform gender relations globally and especially in the Eastern Africa sub-region. The organisation works in nine countries namely Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.
Description the volunteer mandate
The Communication and Branding Specialist is responsible for developing and executing marketing communications plans that support EASSI’s overall branding strategy. This includes creating and managing content for the EASSI’s website, social media channels, and other marketing collateral; developing and executing public relations campaigns; and managing EASSI’s brand identity.
Eligibility criteria
- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training.
The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training.
