Project description and context:

Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.

The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.

Description of the partner & Description the volunteer mandate

The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) is one of the leading women’s rights organizations in Uganda and the pioneer of legal aid and public legal education in sub-Saharan Africa. Formed in 1974, FIDA-Uganda has an established track record of promoting and defending human rights, with a focus on the rights of women with children as beneficiaries of this work. In particular, FIDA Uganda seeks to promote human rights standards as established in international, regional, and national human rights instruments and uses a feminist and rights-based approach in order to address the underlying causes of abuse, including patriarchy, injustice, and exclusion.

In the context of FIDA-Uganda’s mission and operational environment, the declining donor aid and challenges posed by the shrinking civic space underscore the urgent need for specialized fundraising expertise. As FIDA-Uganda navigates these complexities, including heightened competition for limited funding and evolving donor preferences, a fundraising specialist becomes indispensable. With their tailored strategies, donor cultivation skills, and adeptness in leveraging fundraising platforms, a specialist will effectively mobilize resources to support FIDA-Uganda’s crucial work in advancing gender equality, women’s rights, and access to justice. Furthermore, working with the Fundraising Unit, they shall play a vital role in enhancing organizational capacity, providing staff with the necessary training and support, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. In the dynamic landscape of fundraising, the guidance and expertise of a specialist are essential for FIDA-Uganda to sustain its operations, amplify its impact, and drive positive change in Ugandan communities.

FIDA Uganda needs a Fundraising expert who will be responsible for leveraging fundraising channels and platforms to drive fundraising initiatives. The successful candidate will have a crucial role in engaging donors through various strategies and optimizing the organization’s fundraising efforts.
