Project description and context:
Crossroads International will engage Canadians, Canadian stakeholders, Crossroads staff and volunteers, local partner organizations and women and men in sub-Saharan Africa to become Gender Equality Champions both in Canada and overseas.
The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) aims to reduce gender inequalities and alleviate poverty by addressing gender-based violence, inequalities in access to resources and economic opportunities, and barriers in exercising strategic forms of choice, voice, and influence.
Description of the partner
Fair & Square work with 143 local enterprises and 84 regional enterprises, building their capacity towards becoming an exporter and linking them to markets. To deliver highly effective training, we must review our modules and update them, especially social media and marketing which changes quickly. All annual training is based on a needs analysis from the members, we would appreciate the volunteer taking on this assignment and creating a training plan to deliver needed and effective knowledge and information for the enterprises.
Main Responsibilities
- Design a manual to be used for training SMEs when starting a business
- Design a manual for start-ups on marketing and using social media for marketing
- Train Fair & Square staff on how to effectively training start-up SMEs
- Design a manual to be used for training level 2 and level 3 SMEs
- Train Fair & Square staff on effectively training level 2 and level 3 SMEs
- Design a manual for level 2 and level 3 SMEs on marketing and using social media for marketing
- Develop a strategy Fair & Square staff can use to determine when and what training the SWIFT partners/members would need
- Design an M&E plan for evaluating Fair & Square partners/members’ needs with regards to business development
- Design a needs assessment survey for Fair & Square partners/members
- Carry out a needs assessment and feedback/ satisfaction survey for Fair & Square members/partners
- Design a satisfaction and feedback assessment for Fair & Square staff
- Improve the current Fair & Square pre and post training feedback survey for SMEs
- Make improvements on the current Fair & Square policies i.e. HR manual, Child Labour policy.
- Identify what new policies Fair & Square needs and design based on the needs.
Qualifications
- 3- 8 years working experience with a Research and development background with strong manual writing skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to analyse data and report writing.
- Computer literacy including surveys, Excel and Word programmes, the ability to present findings to the team in a training facilitation manner.
Eligibility criteria

- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Willing to conduct fundraising and public engagement activities before, during and after the placement
- Share the commitment of preventing and addressing sexual misconduct
- In good physical and mental health (medical examination required)
- The volunteer needs to bring their own computer.
- The volunteer must be available to attend an online pre-departure training Personalized support before, during and after the mandate provided by an experienced and welcoming team. The Crossroads’ experience includes the following:
- Daily living allowance (depending of the country of assignment)
- Plane ticket and local transport
- Pre-assignment online training.
